April 10, 2020 Community Action distributes bottles of soap to Gallia and Meigs Counties
The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies, in partnership with the Office of Governor Mike DeWine, has coordinated the distribution of over 20,000 bottles of soap to Community Action Agencies across Ohio. Thanks to a generous donation from Bath and Body Works, these soaps will be distributed across the state at food pantries, domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and other vital locations to meet the needs of struggling Ohioans.
“Hygiene products have been in short supply due to the overwhelming demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Philip E. Cole, executive director of OACAA. “Governor DeWine’s office and Bath and Body Works was quick to respond, and we’re pleased to get these supplies into the hands of citizens to help flatten the curve and save lives in Ohio.”
Community Action Agencies provide essential services in every Ohio county. Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency has adjusted operations to maintain social distancing requirements and is still operating through telephone intake and drop box to provide emergency services and more to our community. Soap was distributed through Gallia County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Meigs county Board of Developmental Disabilities, Gallia County Early Intervention, and Metis County Early Intervention.
“We are thankful for the donation of the products and the organizations that helped to distribute them to our residents,” said Lora Rawson, GMCAA Executive Director. “The health and safety of our residents is our greatest concern in this unprecedented time.”
Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other. Community Action Agencies work to alleviate poverty and empower low-income families in their communities. The Gallia Meigs Community Action Agency serves Gallia and Meigs Counties, and assisted over 600 low-income residents in Gallia and Meigs Counties in 2019.
