Over a 10 year period (2008-2017) Gallia, Jackson, and Meigs Counties ranked in the top ten as highest counties at risk of suicide in Ohio. Where 9 out of 10 counties are in Appalachia.<br>The average annual rates of suicide per 100,000 in each county were:<br>#1 Meigs County 21.46<br>#2 Jackson County 19.86<br>#3 Gallia County 17.78<br><br>All three counties have come together to collaborate in education, advocacy, support and prevention with respect for the unique qualities and strengths of these Appalachian communities. <br><br>Many people are still hesitant to discuss suicide due to stigma. Stigma creates a barrier to help-seeking behavior for people who have suicidal thoughts, have previously attempted suicide, or lost a loved one to suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to help:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Join: Attend meetings, join a planning committee, volunteer, became a community leader and advocate. Everyone is welcome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training: Get QRP training. CPR for suicide Prevention. Free training for our community, evidence based. Talk saves lives, healing conversations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate: Participate in awareness-raising events. Southeast Ohio Suicide Prevention Conference, AFSP Out of Darkness Walks, International Survivors of Suicide Loss, educational sessions on efforts locally, state and nationwide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support: Be part of our Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS). Postvention support for survivors of attempt and suicide loss.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Meetings every second Tuesday of the Month 4:30-5:30 on Zoom. <br>Meeting ID: 897 5168 7650<br> Password: 033374<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>QPR Gatekeepers Training: Recognize signs of distress, provide hope, provide support.
