{"id":2334,"date":"2026-07-27T15:18:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.galliameigscaa.org\/?p=2334"},"modified":"2026-07-27T15:33:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:33:40","slug":"august-2026-summer-crisis-program-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.galliameigscaa.org\/index.php\/2026\/07\/27\/august-2026-summer-crisis-program-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"August 2026 Summer Crisis Program Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summer Crisis Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">July 27, 2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Gallia-Meigs Community Action Agency are Once again offering assistance to help Ohio&#8217;s families stay cool during the hot summer months.<br><br>From July 1 through September 30, income-eligible Ohioans can receive assistance in paying their electric bill, purchasing an air conditioner or fan, or making repairs to their central air conditioning unit through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program (HEAP).<br><br>The Summer Crisis Program assists low-income households and those that have a disconnection notice, have been shut off, are trying to establish new service on their electric bill, require air conditioning or those with a household member age 60 or older and\/or a household with a documented medical condition. Qualifying medical conditions can include lung disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, asthma, and others. <br><br>To qualify for assistance, Ohioans must have a gross income at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for a family of up to seven members, and 60 percent of the State Median Income for a family of eight or more members. For a family of four, the annual income must be at or below $57,750.<br><br>Last year, the Summer Crisis Program assisted more than 55,000 households in Ohio, providing a total of $12.4 million in benefits. <br><br>To apply for the program, clients are required to schedule a telephone appointment with Gallia-Meigs CAA. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 740-737-8696. Please listen to the menu till the end of the phone call, you will be given a confirmation number, make sure to bring it with  you when turning in your documentations. You can also email us at heap@galliameigscaa.org<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clients need to bring in copies of the following documents to their appointment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copies of their most recent energy bills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A list of all household members and proof on income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of U.S. Citizenship (Social Security Cards) for all members of the household. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of disability (if applicable).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member&#8217;s health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This under 60 needing a doctor&#8217;s statement, we have the forms at our local office. You can pick one up Monday-Friday 8am-11am or 1pm-4pm. Always make sure that you check with our office for any closings. <br><br>Ohioans enrolled in the Percentage of Income payment Pluss Plan (PIPP) program who meet the above criteria may also be eligible for assistance, or central air conditioning repairs, or may receive an air conditioning unit and\/or fan.<br><br>For more information about the Summer Crisis Program contact Gallia-Meigs CAA at 740-444-4400 extension 2100.
